I am Luke Gloeckner. I look for ways to bring stories to life visually, then I teach people what I learned.
I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on a Tuesday and was given the name of a Star Wars character. I was then quickly smuggled across the state border into New Jersey where I spent two decades growing into an adult human and accumlating stories along the way. I then started living in other places to gather even more stories. I’ve got some tales about my time in Iowa, and I’ve got lots more about living in Ohio, and I’ve got a few about my days in Philly. Now, I’m gathering more stories as I live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It’s quite nice.
I’m a filmmaker, so it would be fair to say that my life changed when I got a VHS camcorder at age 14. That gave me the amazing new ability to tell stories with a camera. Decades later, that medium is now my life and I spend my days either filming stories, designing materials to help other filmmakers sell their stories, or editing films until the break of dawn.
As I gain experience and learn more from all of the projects that I encounter, I also get to work with the younger generation to teach them all of the wonderful things that I know about visual storytelling. This, too, is quite nice.
Here’s a short film about my journey to North Carolina:
